AI social media manager: what it does and what it costs (2026)
By Feedhand editorial teamPublished 9 min readStrategy
You are probably asking one of three things: what an AI social media manager actually does, whether it is worth paying for, and what it gets wrong. This page answers all three, using Feedhand as the worked example because we can show our own measurements. The detailed cost math lives in our guide to the cost of social media with AI, and the people-versus-software comparison lives in social media manager vs agency vs AI.
What is an AI social media manager?
An AI social media manager is a product that does the job of a social media manager, not just one task inside it: it learns the brand, decides what to post and when, makes the posts and prepares them for publishing. The owner's role shrinks to giving context, approving and sharing. The difference from other "AI for social media" products is who carries the workload, not which model sits underneath.
A useful test is to ask what you have at the end of an hour. With a writing assistant you have captions you still need to plan around. With a scheduler you have a queue of posts you made yourself. With a manager you have a month of finished posts waiting for your yes or no.
How is it different from a scheduler or an AI writing assistant?
A scheduler publishes what you made, a writing assistant drafts what you ask for, and a manager decides and produces the whole month. That is the "tool versus manager" line, and it is the main thing to check before comparing prices.
| Product type | Who decides what to post | Who makes the post | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduler (Buffer, Hootsuite style) | You | You | A calendar and publishing queue |
| AI writing assistant | You | AI writes text, you design | Captions and ideas on request |
| AI social media manager | The AI, from your brand | The AI, from your photos | A finished month to approve |
Schedulers are excellent at what they do, and many teams pair one with their own content process. If you already have a designer and a plan, a scheduler may be all you need; our pages on Feedhand vs Buffer and Feedhand vs Hootsuite lay out where each one fits. The full list of comparisons also covers FeedHive.
What does an AI social media manager actually do, step by step?
It runs five steps: read the brand, plan the month, create the posts, send them for approval and package them for sharing. Here is how each step works in Feedhand, with the times we measured on 27 Oct 2026.
- Brand reading. You paste a website or an App Store / Google Play link, add anything you want it to know, and upload product photos, a menu or a catalog. It builds a "brand brain": business model, audiences and voice. In our test this took 93–113 seconds; see how long AI brand analysis takes for the breakdown.
- Research and planning. It looks at competitors and the target market, up to 5 countries, each in its own language, and plans a full month for Instagram, TikTok, X and Reddit. A 150-post plan (75 posts per market, 2 markets) took 23.5–27 minutes end to end. The answer on planning time explains what is included.
- Creation. From your own product photos it makes Reels and TikTok videos, carousels, stories, single images and X or Reddit text. Video and AI images are powered by Viralance, our sister company. A 15–30 second 9:16 video took 3.4–5 minutes to generate; more in how long an AI Reel takes.
- Approval. Every post arrives with a "why this post" note, the platform rules it follows and safety checks. You approve, edit or reject it on your phone.
- Sharing. Approved posts become a ready, full-resolution package you share in one tap. AI labels and paid-partnership disclosure are marked in every package.
How many posts a month makes sense depends on the platform and your capacity. Our guide on how often to post on Instagram, TikTok and X covers that before you pick a plan size.
How much does an AI social media manager cost?
Feedhand costs $99 to $799 a month, and yearly billing takes 20% off. The plan sets how many posts, stories and videos you get, since video is the expensive part to produce.
| Plan | Price per month | Posts + stories | Videos | AI edits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo | $99 | 30 + 30 | 0 | 20 |
| Starter | $179 | 30 + 30 | 10 | 30 |
| Growth | $499 | 90 + 60 | 30 | 60 |
| Pro | $799 | 150 + 90 | 50 | 120 |
Divided by posts only, that is $3.30 a post on Photo and about $5.33 on Pro, before counting stories. Behind that price, the language-model work of planning and writing is small: in our test it was $4.11–4.24 for 150 posts, about 2.7–2.8 cents a post. That figure excludes generating images and video, which costs far more; the cost per AI post answer separates the two.
Compared with the alternatives, the honest framing is this. A freelancer or in-house manager brings judgment, community replies and photography that software does not, at a higher monthly cost. An agency adds strategy and accountability at a higher cost still. A scheduler is cheaper but leaves the content work with you. The manager vs agency vs AI breakdown puts numbers on each path, and the Feedhand pricing section lists what each plan includes.
What can't an AI social media manager do yet?
It cannot replace your judgment, and in Feedhand's case it does not post on its own yet. Here are the limits you should plan around.
- No auto-posting yet. Feedhand prepares and you share; auto-posting is coming soon but not live. Direct publishing goes through each platform's API rules; Instagram, for example, only allows API publishing to professional accounts with specific publishing permissions. See whether AI can post to Instagram automatically.
- Reddit is always manual. You get the copy and a button that opens the submit page; you post from your own account.
- Human approval is required. Nothing goes out without your yes.
- It needs good product photos. It builds posts from what you upload. Blurry or dark shots produce weak posts; our free photo picker tool sorts a camera roll before you upload.
- Brand voice still needs review. The brand brain gets the tone close, not perfect, especially for humor and local slang.
- AI labeling is your responsibility too. Meta shows an "AI info" label on Instagram, Facebook and Threads when it detects AI indicators or when people disclose AI content. TikTok says it has labeled over 3 billion videos as AI-generated, using Content Credentials, creator labels and watermarking. Our answer on whether AI posts need a label covers each platform.
Why review still matters: the 37 out of 150 example
In an earlier run, 37 of 150 posts contained self-disclaimer phrases of the "as an AI..." kind, the sort of line no brand wants in a caption. We fixed the prompt and the same test produced 0 of 150. The fix worked, but the lesson stays: an AI manager can make a systematic mistake across a whole month, and a quick human read is what catches it.
How do you evaluate an AI social media manager?
Judge it on a real month for your own brand, not on a demo. Ask for the output, then check it against this list.
| Check | What a good answer looks like |
|---|---|
| Does it read your brand on its own? | Audiences and voice you recognize, from your link alone |
| Does it plan, or only write? | A dated month with formats chosen per platform |
| Does it use your real product photos? | Posts built from your uploads, not stock images |
| Does every post explain itself? | A reason, the platform rule it follows, safety checks |
| How does publishing really work? | A clear yes or no on auto-posting, today, per platform |
| Are AI labels and ad disclosure handled? | Marked in every package, not left to memory |
| Can you test it free on real posts? | A trial that produces real posts, not templates |
| Can you cancel without a fight? | Monthly cancel, clear end of service |
If a product cannot show you a real month, treat the claims with care. Our editorial policy explains how we test the tools we write about, including our own.
How we measured this
We ran Feedhand on 27 Oct 2026 on a real brand, viralance.com, targeting Türkiye and the USA. We timed brand analysis from link submission to finished brand brain (93–113 seconds), a full monthly plan of 150 posts, 75 per market, from start to last post written (23.5–27 minutes), and vertical 9:16 videos of 15–30 seconds from request to finished file (3.4–5 minutes). The $4.11–4.24 figure is language-model usage for planning and writing only, read from our usage logs; it is not the image or video generation cost and not the subscription price.
The self-disclaimer count is the number of the 150 posts containing "as an AI" style phrases, checked before and after one prompt change. Limits: this is one brand, two markets and one day of runs. Times depend on load and on how much material a brand provides, so treat them as ranges, not guarantees.
Try it on your own brand
The fastest way to judge an AI social media manager is to see what it makes for you. Feedhand's free trial lasts 2 days and gives you 3 real posts (images and carousels) without a credit card. Start the free trial with your link and compare the result with the checklist above.
Frequently asked questions
Is an AI social media manager the same as a social media scheduler?
No. A scheduler publishes posts you made yourself, while an AI social media manager decides what to post and creates the posts from your brand and photos. You can use both together if you want a scheduler's queue on top.
Can an AI social media manager post for me automatically?
Some products can publish through platform APIs, but Feedhand does not auto-post yet. It prepares a full-resolution package, you approve it on your phone and share it in one tap. Reddit posts are always shared manually from your own account.
How long does it take an AI to plan a month of social media?
In our test on 27 Oct 2026, a 150-post plan for two markets took 23.5–27 minutes end to end. Brand analysis before it took 93–113 seconds. Smaller plans take less time.
Do I still need to check AI-made posts?
Yes. Feedhand requires approval for every post, and our own 37-out-of-150 self-disclaimer bug shows why. A short read catches tone slips, wrong facts and missing labels before they go public.
What is the cheapest way to try an AI social media manager?
Feedhand's free trial runs 2 days and makes 3 real posts with no credit card. After that the Photo plan is $99 a month for 30 posts and 30 stories without video.
